Wildness is my altar. I recognise it everywhere I step: in the exchange my body makes against glass and under the oak’s canopy, in the creative dreams nuzzling my heart, and in the singing of all souls, human and other.

The Art of a Smile
An elephant’s tusk waltzes through the dead grass
Flinging beetles in a spray of musty mist
The beetles giggle at their unexpected flight
Their joy doubles as they land in a pile of shite
A fastidious female crouches half hidden
Her nose turned upwind to the foul she’s just given
Though the beetles don’t mind, they’ve been rolling for years
Taking and making their fibrous spheres
On hearing them laugh, the elephant stops
And questions his path
His four padded feet snuffle the ground
Sensing vibrations from the rocks all around
The fastidious female emits some sound
As she buckles then chuckles at the bugs on the ground
The festooning bugs have bought peace all around
Until the next line, as the elephant sounds
A thuddering shuddering shake of the ground
The fastidious female quickens her step
Forgetting to cover her sweet defecate
The elephant charges with boisterous guile
Teaching our female the art of a smile
